Curis Lifesciences Limited is expanding its pharmaceutical business across domestic branded products, international markets and contract manufacturing as it works to build multiple growth avenues. The company’s strategy is supported by its 51% acquisition of Uninova Lifesciences Pvt Ltd, along with growing business opportunities in Kenya and Nigeria.
The acquisition of Uninova has strengthened Curis Lifesciences’ presence in the domestic branded pharmaceutical segment by adding an established marketing and distribution platform. Uninova currently has around 50 products in its branded portfolio and plans to introduce about 12 more products in the near term. The company aims to cross 100 products by the end of the year.
Uninova has also entered the injectable segment with six products covering four molecules — Gentamicin, Dexamethasone, Ondansetron and Paracetamol. The products include Novagent, Novagent Plus, Novadex, Novadex Forte, Ondanova and Novapar Forte. The injectable portfolio is being developed through third-party manufacturing, allowing the company to expand its offerings without making immediate investments in additional manufacturing facilities.
Uninova recorded turnover of approximately ₹5.43 crore in the previous year and is targeting around ₹7 crore in the current year. Sales from its own branded products are expected to increase from approximately ₹0.75 crore to ₹3 crore. “Our focus is on creating a diversified pharmaceutical platform with multiple growth engines across branded products, contract manufacturing and international markets,” said Dharmesh Patel, Chairman and Managing Director, Curis Lifesciences. “The expansion through Uninova gives us an established platform to strengthen our branded portfolio and enter new product segments, including injectables.”
Kenya remains an established international market for the company. Curis Lifesciences has completed the renewal of its product registrations in the country and has received purchase orders worth approximately ₹3 crore through three orders. The company expects Kenya-related merchant export sales to increase by around 30–40% over the previous year, supported by additional registrations and customers.
Nigeria represents another long-term opportunity. Curis Lifesciences has formed a joint venture with Euroson Pharmaceuticals under CUROSON PHARMACEUTICAL NIGERIA INC. to develop a branded pharmaceutical business in the country. Seven product dossiers submitted through Euroson Pharmaceuticals have been accepted. The company estimates annual sales potential of ₹3–4 crore once the required licences are received and purchase orders begin.
Curis Lifesciences is using its manufacturing, marketing and distribution capabilities to develop a business model combining domestic brands, exports and contract manufacturing. The company aims to increase the contribution of branded and recurring revenues while expanding its presence in international markets.
