Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR), a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and manage Common Rail Handling Operations for upcoming container terminals at the proposed Vadhvan Port. The agreement was formalized on 29th October 2025 in Mumbai during India Maritime Week 2025, with Sanjay Swarup, Chairman & Managing Director of CONCOR, and Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Chairman of JNPA and CMD of Vadhvan Port Project Limited, signing the MoU in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Under the terms of the agreement, CONCOR will serve as the Common Rail Handling Operator, offering consultancy and operational expertise in areas such as rail coordination, infrastructure planning, and container management at the shared rail yard. The initiative aims to optimize rail-linked cargo operations, enabling smoother container handling across the new port terminals.

The project is planned with a total investment of approximately ₹500 Crores, to be executed in a phased approach, with operations expected to commence around 2030. This collaboration is designed to create a robust framework for efficient cargo movement and enhanced connectivity between rail and port operations.

This partnership represents a key milestone in advancing India’s multimodal logistics capabilities. By combining JNPA’s port infrastructure expertise with CONCOR’s operational knowledge in rail and container management, the initiative will contribute to a modern, efficient logistics ecosystem at Vadhvan Port, supporting India’s vision for port-led growth and infrastructure development.
