The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Products and Services (GreenPro) Council successfully hosted the 9th edition of the GreenPro Summit 2026, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, sustainability experts, manufacturers and innovators to accelerate the adoption of green products and strengthen India’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.
Held in Pune under the theme “Green Products Driving Decarbonisation in Value Chains,” the two-day summit focused on the role of sustainable manufacturing, green product certification and circular economy practices in reducing carbon emissions across industries. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, industry and technology providers in building environmentally responsible value chains.
The summit also recognised companies that have demonstrated leadership in sustainable manufacturing and green supply chain practices. TVS Motor Company was honoured for excellence in green supply chain management among original equipment manufacturers, while Brakes India Limited and Lumax Industries Limited received recognition for their contribution to developing sustainable supply chains.
During the inaugural session, CII also released the “Decarbonisation of the Kolhapur Foundry Cluster – A GreenPro Initiative” report, showcasing the progress made by the foundry industry in adopting cleaner manufacturing practices and reducing its environmental footprint. The summit featured discussions on sustainable procurement, lifecycle assessment, responsible manufacturing and green product certification. Experts explored strategies to reduce carbon emissions across the complete value chain, covering raw material sourcing, product design, manufacturing, logistics, construction, product use and end-of-life recycling. Special sessions also focused on decarbonising the automotive sector, promoting resource-efficient buildings and accelerating industrial transition towards net-zero emissions.
Addressing the gathering, Deepak Govindrao Mhaisekar, Chairman, State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Government of Maharashtra, said sustainable development must remain at the centre of India’s growth journey. He noted that environmental management has evolved from traditional conservation efforts to advanced approaches such as carbon trading, carbon taxation and lifecycle-based assessment. He added that energy efficiency and sustainable manufacturing would play a vital role in helping India move towards carbon neutrality.
Kamal Bali, Chairman, Green Products and Services Council and President & Managing Director, Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd, said industries must embrace sustainability as a business priority rather than a compliance requirement. He highlighted that the products companies develop today, the technologies they adopt and the partnerships they build will determine their future competitiveness in global markets.
Sharing a global perspective, KS Venkatagiri, Chair, Global Ecolabelling Network and Executive Director, CII Green Business Centre, said international markets increasingly favour products with lower environmental impact and greater transparency. He noted that Indian manufacturers have a significant opportunity to strengthen their global presence by integrating sustainability into product development and manufacturing processes.
S Karthikeyan, Executive Director, IGBC, GreenPro and CII CIES, said GreenPro has certified more than 15,800 products from over 810 companies across 54 product categories, reflecting the growing commitment of Indian industry towards sustainable manufacturing. He added that lifecycle assessment and eco-labelling are becoming essential tools for helping industries measure environmental performance and meet global sustainability expectations.
The summit concluded with a strong call for greater collaboration among policymakers, manufacturers, technology providers and consumers to accelerate the adoption of GreenPro-certified products. CII said wider use of sustainable products and responsible manufacturing practices will support India’s climate goals, strengthen industrial competitiveness and position the country as a global leader in low-carbon manufacturing and green value chains.
