The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Green Business Centre, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), convened a high-level industry session in Sri City to promote the adoption of GreenCo and IGBC green rating systems across the state. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts to discuss pathways for advancing environmentally responsible industrial development.
The session highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s progressive policy framework, which integrates regulatory facilitation with targeted incentives to encourage industries to adopt globally benchmarked sustainability practices. The initiative reflects the state’s broader commitment to balancing rapid industrialisation with environmental stewardship and long-term resource efficiency.
Speaking at the session, Dr P Krishnaiah, Chairman of APPCB, emphasised the role of structured sustainability frameworks in transforming industrial performance. He noted that the GreenCo rating system enables companies to systematically improve across key parameters such as energy efficiency, water management, waste reduction, and circular economy practices. He added that wider adoption of such frameworks could position Sri City as a model for green and circular industrial ecosystems in India.
Industry stakeholders also underscored the importance of integrated industrial clusters in accelerating the sustainability transition. Sri City, which has already achieved IGBC Gold certification, was highlighted as a leading example of sustainable industrial infrastructure. Leaders expressed confidence that increased participation in the GreenCo rating system would further strengthen its position as a national benchmark.
A major focus of the initiative is the Andhra Pradesh Government’s incentive structure designed to reward environmentally responsible industries. Companies achieving GreenCo ratings are eligible for automatic renewal and one-year extensions of Consent to Operate approvals, subject to compliance performance. This provision reduces regulatory uncertainty while encouraging continuous environmental improvement.
In addition, GreenCo-rated companies benefit from formal recognition through state-level platforms, enhancing their market visibility and brand value. The policy also provides preferential consideration in government procurement for products manufactured by certified units, embedding sustainability into public purchasing practices. Enhanced visibility through official platforms further supports industry leadership in environmental performance.
The GreenCo framework, recognised globally for its comprehensive approach, is being positioned as a catalyst for measurable improvements in industrial sustainability. The session concluded with a strong call for industries across Andhra Pradesh to actively participate in the initiative and leverage the state’s enabling ecosystem. Participants noted that the state’s integrated approach—combining policy support, incentives, and industry collaboration—offers a scalable model for other regions seeking to accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and competitive industrial economy.
