The Government of India has approved the establishment of an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, marking a major step towards expanding the state’s electronics and high-tech manufacturing base. The project is expected to attract investments of more than ₹3,000 crore and generate nearly 9,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The development is also expected to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s position as an emerging destination for electronics, semiconductor, electric vehicle and smart technology manufacturing.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved central financial assistance of ₹210.56 crore for the project. The total estimated cost of the cluster is ₹432.08 crore. The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster will be developed by the Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC) across approximately 306 acres in Rajnandgaon. The project will provide companies with ready-built factory spaces and essential industrial infrastructure, including reliable power and water supply, warehousing facilities and other support services.

The availability of ready-to-use infrastructure is expected to reduce the time required for companies to establish manufacturing operations and support faster project implementation. The cluster will provide a common industrial base for companies operating across several technology-focused sectors.

Four anchor companies from the semiconductor, electric vehicle and smart electronics sectors have already shown interest in establishing operations at the proposed cluster. Their participation is expected to help attract additional manufacturers, suppliers and supporting businesses to the region.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the approval and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw for supporting the project. The Chief Minister said the development reflects rising investor confidence in Chhattisgarh and reaffirmed the state government’s focus on creating industry-ready skills among local youth.

The state government plans to align skill development initiatives with the requirements of companies operating in the cluster. This is expected to help local workers access employment opportunities generated by new manufacturing projects. The EMC 2.0 project is also expected to support the Government of India’s broader manufacturing and technology objectives under initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

By creating infrastructure for electronics manufacturing and component production, the cluster could contribute to greater domestic value addition and strengthen supply chains. The Rajnandgaon project marks an important development in Chhattisgarh’s industrial growth plans and could help the state build a stronger presence in India’s rapidly expanding electronics manufacturing sector.
