Bystronic has successfully completed the acquisition of the Tools for Materials Processing business unit from US-based Coherent Corp, with the transaction finalized at the end of January. The acquisition marks a significant step in Bystronic’s long-term growth strategy and further strengthens its position as a global technology leader in advanced manufacturing solutions.

Through this strategic move, Bystronic expands its presence in high-growth markets such as medical technology, electronics, and semiconductor manufacturing. At the same time, the company enhances its technology portfolio with advanced laser-based applications, including micro material processing, marking, engraving, and precision drilling. These capabilities enable Bystronic to serve a broader range of industrial requirements with increased accuracy and efficiency.

A key component of the acquisition is the return of the Rofin brand. Bystronic has acquired full trademark rights and will continue operations under a newly established business unit named Bystronic Rofin. The business unit brings together proven laser technologies and application expertise, building on Rofin’s strong legacy in industrial laser solutions.

Bystronic Rofin offers technologies suitable for processing a wide variety of materials, including metals, glass, ceramics, polymers, and organic materials. This versatility opens new opportunities for research and development, particularly in specialized applications where precision, material knowledge, and process reliability are critical.

Both Bystronic and Rofin share a common philosophy of delivering complete, customer-focused solutions. Bystronic works closely with customers to develop tailored solutions that span from initial concept development to stable, large-scale production. The combination of laser technology, automation systems, and intelligent software creates a strong foundation for advancing industrial manufacturing processes.

Rofin contributes decades of experience in the industrialization of laser technologies, extensive application knowledge, and a strong commitment to customer success. The integration of Rofin’s technologies into the Bystronic portfolio significantly expands the range of solutions available to customers across multiple industries.

“We are pleased to welcome customers, partners, and colleagues into the new Bystronic Rofin business unit,” said Domenico Iacovelli, CEO of Bystronic. “By combining Rofin’s proven laser expertise with Bystronic’s strengths in automation and software, we are well positioned to support our customers in improving productivity and maintaining competitiveness in increasingly demanding markets.”

The Bystronic Rofin business unit employs approximately 400 people and has generated annual revenues of around USD 100 million in recent years. The unit is headquartered in Gilching near Munich, a recognized hub for laser and precision technology.
