Bulten has entered into a binding agreement with its joint venture partner to take full ownership of its operations in India. The move underlines India’s growing role in Bulten’s long-term plans and supports the company’s goal of expanding its operational base in carefully selected growth markets.
As part of this transition, Bulten intends to move its Indian operations to Chennai, a major hub for consumer electronics and advanced manufacturing. The new site will be located in an industrial park where several leading global contract manufacturers are setting up operations, providing close access to both customers and suppliers.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with local authorities covering the development of the new facility. The project will be developed in phases, with the initial phase expected to require an investment of approximately SEK 30–50 million. Any further expansion will be assessed over time, based on customer needs and market conditions.
This initiative is one of the first tangible results of the strategic review previously announced by the company. It reflects Bulten’s sharper focus on selected customer relationships and value chains beyond its traditional automotive business. By strengthening its footprint in India, Bulten aims to support customers in growing segments such as consumer electronics and other industrial applications, while gradually expanding into new sources of profitability.
“Many of our customers are rethinking their global manufacturing setups, including so-called China-plus-one strategies,” says Axel Berntsson, President and CEO of Bulten. “India is increasingly viewed as a key addition to global supply chains, particularly within electronics and industrial manufacturing. At the same time, changes in global trade and policy further highlight the importance of strengthening our presence in the region. Together, these factors support our ambition to be closer to our customers and to take part in more diversified global value chains.” Bulten will provide updates on material developments in line with applicable disclosure requirements.
