Bridgestone India has inaugurated a Nature Interpretation Centre within its Butterfly Garden at the company’s Kheda plant, marking another step in its ongoing efforts toward biodiversity conservation and environmental education. The initiative reflects Bridgestone’s commitment to creating meaningful ecological impact while fostering awareness among local communities and students.
The Nature Interpretation Centre has been developed as an eco-friendly mud structure designed to support immersive learning experiences. It houses three-dimensional educational models, interactive smart boards, and a dedicated resource section with books, herbariums, and training material. The Centre will serve as a venue for workshops, awareness sessions, and community outreach programmes. Recently, more than 70 students from five nearby schools visited the facility, gaining practical exposure to biodiversity, ecosystems, and conservation practices.
Situated within the 1.23-acre Bridgestone Butterfly Garden, the Centre is part of a larger green initiative enriched with over 7,000 native plant species. The garden has evolved into a healthy habitat for butterflies, birds, reptiles, mammals, and other pollinators. An assessment conducted by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) indicates significant ecological progress, with butterfly species rising from 44 to 68 and bird species increasing from 40 to 46 since the garden was established. Notably, several of the bird species recorded were observed in the Kheda region for the first time.
Together, the Bridgestone Butterfly Garden and the newly inaugurated Nature Interpretation Centre demonstrate how industrial development and environmental stewardship can coexist. The initiative aligns with Bridgestone India’s broader sustainability vision, emphasizing responsible growth, biodiversity protection, and long-term community engagement.
