Bostik, a prominent global adhesive specialist renowned for its contributions to industrial, construction, and consumer markets, is poised to unveil a groundbreaking innovation at the upcoming 10th Specialty Films & Flexible Packaging Global Summit. The event is scheduled to take place in Mumbai, India, on August 31 and September 1, 2023. Bostik will showcase the world’s first RecyClass approved laminating adhesive, known as Bostik SF10M.
With the escalating trend of transforming packaging into mono-material structures to enhance recyclability, the spotlight is now on ensuring that all components of packaging, including adhesives, inks, and functional resins, are recyclable. Bostik SF10M emerges as a solvent-free aromatic polyurethane-based laminating adhesive meticulously designed for mono-material structures. Specifically tailored for polyethylene and polypropylene films, it empowers high-quality recycling of packaging. This adhesive is ideally suited for laminates comprising unprinted or printed polyolefin films such as MDO-PE, BOPE, LDPE, CPP, BOPP, and even metallized BOPP. Its remarkable success lies in its compatibility with leading machine manufacturers and converters, allowing seamless operations at high line speeds of up to 400m/min without necessitating any process adaptations.

Bostik SF10M underwent rigorous testing at the end of 2020 and received the seal of approval from RecyClass for being fully compatible with the EU PE flexible recycling stream. Subsequently, its recycling performance has been endorsed through real-world applications. RecyClass stands as a significant non-profit initiative uniting various industries to promote plastic packaging recyclability while ensuring transparency and traceability of recycled plastic content within Europe.
Notably, Bostik SF10M is commercially available and contributes to the circularity of packaging by elevating the quality of recyclation. The use of a solvent-free 2K system is pivotal, not only in reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions but also in minimising environmental impact during the conversion process. Thus, Bostik SF10M serves as a catalyst for packaging circularity while upholding consumer safety, food protection, and packaging performance.
Amit Bhargava, Flexible Packaging Business Manager at Bostik India, remarked, “In India, the adoption of innovative packaging like stand-up pouches, particularly in the food sector, is on the rise. Coupled with the growing emphasis on sustainability, customers are seeking recyclable, biodegradable, and low-VOC-emitting products. Safe and recyclable adhesives like Bostik SF10M empower packaging converters and manufacturers to combat plastic pollution and spearhead a circular economy in India and the Asia Pacific region.”
