BorgWarner has secured a significant integrated drive module (iDM) program from a leading global automotive manufacturer, further strengthening its position in the rapidly expanding electric mobility market. Production for the new program is expected to commence in 2027.
The award highlights the growing demand for BorgWarner’s advanced electrified propulsion technologies and reflects the company’s ability to combine global engineering expertise with localized development and manufacturing capabilities. The latest program will leverage BorgWarner’s next-generation integrated drive module platform, designed to deliver higher efficiency, improved performance and greater system integration for electric vehicles.
The new three-in-one integrated coaxial drive system combines an advanced electric motor, a compact gearbox and BorgWarner’s fully integrated fourth-generation inverter into a single high-performance package. The system has been developed to improve power density while reducing weight and packaging space, enabling vehicle manufacturers to optimize performance and design flexibility.
A key feature of the solution is BorgWarner’s latest-generation Viper D power switch technology, integrated into the GenIV inverter. The technology reduces switching losses, supports higher current capability and enhances the overall efficiency of the electric drive system. The integrated drive module also incorporates a next-generation coaxial gearbox with a compact architecture, an oil-cooled electric motor engineered for demanding operating conditions and an integrated park system designed to meet stringent global safety and regulatory requirements.
Commenting on the development, Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems, said, “This award reflects BorgWarner’s continued commitment to delivering advanced electrified drive solutions through the strength of our global technology portfolio and localized capabilities. We are pleased to support our customer with a scalable, high-performance eDrive platform that addresses evolving mobility requirements.”
The integrated drive module has been developed on a lightweight and compact platform architecture that enhances packaging efficiency while offering greater flexibility for vehicle integration. Its modular hardware and software design enables manufacturers to configure the system for a wide range of vehicle applications, reducing development complexity, shortening product development timelines and improving overall cost competitiveness.
As global demand for electric vehicles continues to accelerate, BorgWarner remains focused on advancing innovative propulsion technologies that help automakers deliver more efficient, reliable and sustainable mobility solutions. This latest program further reinforces the company’s strategy of supporting customers with scalable, high-performance electrification technologies tailored to evolving market requirements.
