BorgWarner has secured multiple turbocharger business awards from a major European automotive OEM for a range of passenger car and van applications, further strengthening the company’s position in advanced combustion engine technologies. The newly awarded business includes both extensions of existing programmes and a conquest win with a long-standing customer, reinforcing BorgWarner’s continued presence in global combustion vehicle platforms even as the automotive industry accelerates toward more efficient and lower-emission mobility solutions.

According to the company, production for the awarded programmes is scheduled to begin in phases between the second quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2029. The projects will support a variety of gasoline and diesel engine applications across passenger vehicles and commercial van platforms.

BorgWarner stated that the awards reflect growing demand for highly efficient turbocharging technologies capable of improving engine performance, fuel economy, and emissions compliance in modern internal combustion engines. The company’s turbocharger portfolio includes a broad range of advanced technologies engineered to meet increasingly stringent efficiency and regulatory requirements across global automotive markets.

Dr Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, said the new business wins highlight the company’s strong engineering capabilities, competitive product portfolio, and long-standing customer relationships. He noted that BorgWarner remains focused on delivering advanced turbocharging technologies while ensuring reliable supply chain execution and strong programme launch performance for customers worldwide.

The awarded business covers several turbocharger technologies tailored to different engine and vehicle requirements. These include variable turbine geometry systems, twin-scroll wastegate turbochargers, and regulated two-stage turbocharging solutions designed to optimize combustion efficiency and engine responsiveness.

Variable turbine geometry technology enables improved boost control and efficiency across varying engine speeds, helping enhance fuel economy and reduce emissions. Twin-scroll wastegate turbochargers are designed to improve exhaust flow management and engine response, while regulated two-stage turbocharging systems provide optimized performance for applications requiring enhanced power delivery and efficiency under diverse driving conditions.

BorgWarner stated that these technologies will help the customer achieve demanding regulatory and operational targets while supporting a broad portfolio of vehicle applications in both passenger and commercial segments. Manufacturing for the awarded programmes will take place at BorgWarner’s production facilities located in Rzeszów, Poland, and Kirchheimbolanden, Germany. The company noted that the projects also demonstrate its ability to combine advanced engineering expertise with efficient global manufacturing and supply chain management capabilities to support high-volume vehicle programmes.

As global automotive manufacturers continue balancing electrification strategies with ongoing demand for efficient combustion engine vehicles, advanced turbocharging systems remain an important technology for improving engine efficiency and lowering emissions. Turbochargers enable smaller engines to deliver higher performance while reducing fuel consumption and supporting compliance with tightening emissions regulations worldwide.

BorgWarner continues to expand its portfolio across both conventional and electrified mobility technologies, including turbocharging, thermal management, power electronics, battery systems, and electric propulsion solutions. The company stated that its continued investment in advanced combustion technologies reflects ongoing market demand for efficient and sustainable vehicle solutions during the industry’s transition toward cleaner mobility.
