BorgWarner has strengthened its position in the Asian electric vehicle (EV) market with the acquisition of three major contracts for its High Voltage Coolant Heater (HVCH) technology in China, Korea, and Japan. These new business wins mark a significant milestone for BorgWarner, underscoring the growing demand for advanced thermal management solutions in the rapidly expanding EV industry.

In China, a leading domestic electric vehicle manufacturer has selected BorgWarner’s HVCH for its upcoming battery electric SUV. Production for this model is set to begin in the second quarter of 2025. This partnership highlights BorgWarner’s expanding footprint in China, where the EV market continues to grow at an unprecedented pace. The HVCH will play a key role in ensuring efficient thermal management within the vehicle’s battery system, enhancing performance and driving range.

In Korea, BorgWarner has secured another major win with an electric vehicle manufacturer for its new electric pick-up model. Production for this vehicle is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2025. The HVCH will be crucial for regulating cabin temperatures, improving energy efficiency, and optimizing the overall driving experience, especially for electric trucks, which face unique challenges related to energy consumption and battery management in colder temperatures.

The third win for BorgWarner comes from Japan, where the company has secured its first HVCH program with a local OEM for a battery electric vehicle. Production of this model is expected to begin in 2028, marking a key step in BorgWarner’s expansion into Japan’s growing EV market. The compact and efficient design of the HVCH will enable superior thermal performance at a lower cost, making it an attractive solution for Japanese automakers focused on innovation and efficiency.

Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to meet the evolving needs of global EV manufacturers. “These three important business wins underscore the strength of BorgWarner’s HVCH technology and further solidify our relationships with key Asian OEMs. Our cost-effective, efficient heating solutions continue to drive our success in critical regions,” he said.

BorgWarner’s HVCH technology is known for its compact, modular structure, high thermal power density, and quick response times. Designed with advanced Thick Film Element (TFE) technology, these heaters are capable of rapidly distributing heat, improving both battery performance and passenger comfort while minimizing energy consumption. With compatibility across a wide range of electric vehicles, the HVCH is positioned as a critical component for future electric and hybrid vehicle models.
