Bharat Forge Limited today announced the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Landing Gear Components Machining Facility in Mundhwa, Pune. The new facility has been developed in collaboration with Liebherr‑Aerospace & Transportation SAS and represents a major milestone in strengthening India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities.

The advanced facility positions Bharat Forge Limited among the first companies in India operating OEM-approved machining capabilities for critical landing-gear components at scale. Equipped with next-generation machining centres and precision engineering technologies, the facility will manufacture high-precision landing gear components for global aerospace programs.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior leadership from both organizations. Representatives from Liebherr-Aerospace included Martin Wandel, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer; Philipp Walter, Managing Director at Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH; Bernd Schacherl, Director Procurement; and Sunil Kalra and Sanjay Prasad, Managing Directors at Liebherr India Private Limited. The Bharat Forge delegation was led by Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director, along with senior leadership from the company’s aerospace division.

Speaking at the inauguration, Amit Kalyani said the facility marks an important milestone in Bharat Forge’s aerospace journey and reinforces the company’s long-term strategy to strengthen advanced manufacturing capabilities in India. “This state-of-the-art facility developed in partnership with Liebherr-Aerospace represents a significant step in Bharat Forge’s growth in the aerospace sector,” Kalyani said. “We deeply appreciate the trust placed in our aerospace division to manufacture critical components for global aerospace programs. The launch of this facility is more than an operational milestone; it reflects our commitment to expanding capabilities, enhancing value addition and supporting the long-term sustainability of the Indian manufacturing ecosystem.”

Bharat Forge has steadily expanded its aerospace footprint over the past decade and today offers a comprehensive manufacturing portfolio across aero-engine components, airframe structures and landing-gear sub-systems for both civil and defence aviation programs. The company manufactures turbine and compressor components, forged rings, shafts and discs, as well as structural elements and landing-gear components used in modern aircraft platforms.

To further strengthen its aerospace capabilities, Bharat Forge is also establishing an advanced aerospace ring-mill in India to manufacture high-value forged rings for global aero-engine programs. The expansion will support the company’s strategy to provide integrated solutions across the aerospace manufacturing value chain.

Martin Wandel, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, highlighted the importance of the collaboration in advancing global aerospace manufacturing. “We are proud to partner with Bharat Forge, a highly capable and technology-driven industrial leader,” Wandel said. “Together we have developed a facility designed to meet the demanding requirements of the global aerospace industry. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to innovation, precision engineering and delivering excellence to our customers worldwide.”

The collaboration between the two companies further strengthens India’s role in the global aerospace supply chain. As global aerospace manufacturers increasingly diversify supply networks, advanced manufacturing partnerships such as this one are expected to play an important role in positioning India as a key hub for high-value aerospace components.
