BEML Limited has approved an estimated capital investment of ₹1,500 crore for the establishment of a new greenfield rail manufacturing facility at Umariya, near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The decision was taken by the company’s Board of Directors at its meeting held on February 6, 2026, marking a significant step in BEML’s long-term expansion plans in the rail and mobility segment.
The proposed facility is aimed at strengthening BEML’s manufacturing capabilities to cater to the growing demand for rail and metro products across domestic and international markets. The project will be developed in a phased manner over a period of five years, enabling gradual capacity creation and seamless integration with the company’s existing production ecosystem. The entire investment will be funded through long-term debt, reflecting a measured and strategic approach to capital deployment.
Located near Bhopal, the Umariya site has been selected for its strategic advantages, including improved connectivity and logistical efficiency. The location is expected to support faster movement of raw materials and finished products, while also enabling BEML to serve key customers more effectively. The project has been named “BRAHMA” and represents a major milestone in the company’s efforts to build future-ready infrastructure aligned with India’s expanding rail and urban transit requirements.
Once operational, the new manufacturing facility is expected to significantly enhance BEML’s production capacity, improve delivery timelines, and support the development of advanced rail platforms. The expansion will also help the company diversify its manufacturing footprint and reduce capacity constraints at existing plants. In addition, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to industrial growth in the region.
The Board noted that the investment is in line with BEML’s long-term growth strategy and its commitment to strengthening indigenous manufacturing capabilities. By expanding its rail manufacturing base, the company aims to reinforce its position as a key supplier to Indian Railways, metro rail corporations, and other mobility projects, while also exploring export opportunities.
The approval of this project underscores BEML’s confidence in the sustained growth of the rail sector and its focus on building scale, efficiency, and technological capability. With the BRAHMA project, BEML is poised to play a larger role in supporting India’s infrastructure development agenda while driving long-term value for stakeholders.
