Balu Forge Industries Limited (BSE: 531112 | NSE: BALUFORGE), a leading precision engineering and manufacturing company, has secured a significant order for the supply of 30,000 units of 152 mm artillery shells from a prominent Indian defence energetics manufacturer, marking an important milestone in the company’s growing presence within the defence sector. Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to commence in June 2026 and will be supported by the company’s advanced manufacturing infrastructure at its greenfield facility in Belgaum, Karnataka. The order represents a strategic step in Balu Forge’s efforts to expand its participation in India’s defence production ecosystem and strengthen its role in supporting indigenous manufacturing initiatives.
The company indicated that the initial order forms the basis for a broader long-term collaboration, with the potential for production volumes to exceed 100,000 artillery shells through future contracts and additional ammunition variants. The partnership is expected to create opportunities for Balu Forge to expand its product portfolio and address evolving requirements across the large-calibre ammunition segment.
Execution of the contract will be driven through a fully automated, indigenously developed production line dedicated to manufacturing empty shell bodies. Equipped with advanced robotics and automated forging technologies, the facility has been designed to deliver high levels of precision, consistency and production efficiency while supporting scalability for future demand.
To accommodate growing domestic and international requirements, Balu Forge is simultaneously expanding manufacturing capacity at the facility. The investment aligns with India’s objective of strengthening self-reliance in defence production and increasing domestic capabilities across critical military supply chains.
The company is also advancing its strategy of forward integration through its subsidiary, Quantum Energetics. This initiative is focused on advanced energetics and defence materials, enabling Balu Forge to move beyond precision shell manufacturing and participate in additional stages of ammunition development and production. The strategy is expected to enhance value creation and support the company’s long-term ambitions within the defence industry.
Further reinforcing its international credentials, Balu Forge holds NATO certification and maintains strategic arrangements that position it to serve global defence markets. The certification reflects compliance with stringent quality, manufacturing and performance standards required for mission-critical defence components.
Commenting on the development, the company’s management stated that the order validates Balu Forge’s engineering capabilities, manufacturing excellence and commitment to supporting both domestic and international defence requirements. The combination of advanced automation, capacity expansion and strategic diversification into energetics is expected to strengthen the company’s position as an integrated defence manufacturing partner.
