Ashok Leyland, the flagship commercial vehicle company of the Hinduja Group, has partnered with Rosmerta Recycling to establish a streamlined and environmentally responsible vehicle scrappage ecosystem for end-of-life commercial vehicles across India. The collaboration is aimed at encouraging fleet owners to replace ageing vehicles with cleaner, more efficient alternatives while supporting the country’s transition towards sustainable mobility and a circular economy.

The partnership aligns with the Government of India’s Voluntary Vehicle Modernisation Program, which promotes the phased replacement of older, high-emission vehicles with modern, fuel-efficient models. It also complements the recently introduced Naya Safar Scheme, which seeks to reduce transport-related emissions across the Delhi-NCR region through accelerated vehicle replacement.

Under the agreement, Ashok Leyland will leverage its nationwide dealer network to connect customers with Rosmerta Recycling’s authorised Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs). Customers will receive end-to-end support throughout the scrappage process, including vehicle deregistration, documentation, statutory compliance and access to certified recycling services, ensuring a transparent and hassle-free experience.

Rosmerta Recycling operates a network of advanced vehicle scrapping facilities equipped to dismantle end-of-life vehicles safely while adhering to stringent environmental and regulatory standards. The facilities are designed to maximise the recovery and reuse of valuable materials, reducing waste and supporting resource conservation through scientific recycling practices.

Commenting on the partnership, Madhavi Deshmukh, National Sales Head, Ashok Leyland, said, “India has a large population of ageing commercial vehicles, making an organised, transparent and customer-centric scrappage ecosystem increasingly important. Our collaboration with Rosmerta Recycling simplifies the disposal process while enabling customers to upgrade to cleaner and more efficient vehicles. This initiative reflects Ashok Leyland’s commitment to sustainable mobility, responsible resource management and reducing emissions throughout the vehicle lifecycle.”

Kartick Nagpal, President, Rosmerta Group, said the partnership comes at a crucial time as government initiatives are expected to accelerate organised commercial vehicle scrappage across the country. He noted that the mandatory scrappage of BS-III and older commercial vehicles through authorised facilities in Delhi-NCR alone is expected to cover more than two lakh vehicles, creating significant opportunities to improve air quality while strengthening India’s circular economy. He added that Rosmerta Recycling remains committed to scientific dismantling, maximum material recovery and compliance with the highest environmental standards.

Customers participating in the programme will also be eligible for competitive scrap value for their old vehicles, manufacturer-supported benefits on the purchase of new Ashok Leyland commercial vehicles, and applicable government incentives such as road tax and registration fee concessions, wherever available. The professionally managed deregistration process will further simplify ownership transition and ensure complete regulatory compliance.

The collaboration represents another step in Ashok Leyland’s broader sustainability strategy, combining cleaner transportation with responsible end-of-life vehicle management. By integrating organised recycling with vehicle replacement, the initiative aims to reduce emissions, recover valuable resources and support the development of a more sustainable commercial vehicle ecosystem across India.
