Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and one of India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, has introduced the country’s first range of heavy-duty trucks equipped with air suspension technology. The new portfolio includes the AVTR 4925 10×2 MAV, AVTR 4625 10×2 MAV, and AVTR 4525 8×2 MAV, offering higher payload capacity, improved ride quality and enhanced operating efficiency for fleet operators.
The launch reinforces Ashok Leyland’s focus on introducing advanced technologies that improve productivity and lower operating costs for commercial vehicle customers. The new range includes India’s first 49-tonne truck with air suspension, delivering a payload advantage of 1.5 tonnes, along with the country’s first 46-tonne and 45-tonne trucks in this category, each offering a payload advantage of up to 4 tonnes.
The higher carrying capacity allows transport operators to move more cargo per trip, helping improve revenue potential while maintaining a competitive total cost of ownership. The trucks have been developed to deliver improved vehicle performance, better load distribution and enhanced operational efficiency across long-haul and heavy-duty transport applications.
Speaking on the launch, Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ashok Leyland, said the company has consistently introduced technologies that create tangible value for customers. He noted that the new air suspension range strengthens Ashok Leyland’s position as a technology leader in the Indian commercial vehicle industry by combining higher payload capability with improved comfort and overall vehicle performance, enabling customers to enhance both productivity and profitability.
Sanjeev Kumar, President – Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Ashok Leyland, said fleet operators increasingly seek vehicles that deliver efficiency, reliability and long-term value. He added that the new air suspension technology offers greater vehicle stability, reduced vibration levels, improved ride comfort and longer tyre life, contributing to a superior ownership experience.
The air suspension system has been engineered to improve vehicle stability, particularly under fully loaded conditions, while minimising shocks and vibrations during operation. The technology enhances driver comfort, especially on uneven roads and long-distance routes, and helps reduce wear on tyres by maintaining better axle load distribution.
Another key advantage is the maintenance-free rear suspension system, which eliminates the need for regular greasing. Lower maintenance requirements, combined with extended tyre life, contribute to reduced operating expenses and improved fleet availability.
To address varying customer requirements, the trucks are available in both cowl and factory-built cabin configurations with multiple loading span options. The vehicles are also equipped as standard with Intelligent Vehicle Acceleration Control (iVAC) and Automatic Traction Control (ATC) technologies, helping improve fuel efficiency, optimise acceleration and deliver better traction across diverse operating conditions.
With the introduction of its air suspension truck range, Ashok Leyland continues to expand its portfolio of technology-driven commercial vehicles. The latest launch reflects the company’s commitment to delivering solutions that enhance transport efficiency, improve driver comfort and maximise fleet profitability while setting new benchmarks in the heavy commercial vehicle segment.
