Ansys and the US-based nonprofit Maker Bhavan Foundation (MBF) have launched a new collaboration aimed at improving access to high-quality engineering education in India’s tier-2 institutions. The partnership will equip selected colleges with professional-grade simulation software from Synopsys’ Simulation and Analysis suite, made available through MBF-supported makerspaces known as Tinkerers’ Labs.
Through this initiative, engineering students outside India’s top-tier institutions will gain exposure to industry-standard tools, helping them develop the technical skills needed in today’s job market. Up to six institutions will be selected for the first phase, where students and faculty will receive academic licenses for Ansys’ multiphysics simulation tools and access to the Ansys Learning Hub for self-paced and instructor-led training.
“This initiative ensures that talent isn’t limited by access,” said Damayanti Bhattacharya, CEO of Maker Bhavan Foundation. “Equipping labs with these tools sends a clear message — innovation can come from anywhere.”
Beyond software access, the program includes technical mentoring, hands-on workshops, hackathons, and training support for both students and faculty. MBF will work closely with participating institutions to help integrate these tools effectively into their academic environment.
“Our collaboration with MBF is part of a broader effort to support the next generation of engineers in India,” said Mike Yeager, Area Vice President, India and Japan, at Ansys, now part of Synopsys. “We’re excited to bring leading-edge technology into classrooms where it can make a real difference.” The program is set to run for one year initially, with both organizations exploring opportunities to expand the partnership across more colleges and over a longer timeframe, further supporting India’s growing innovation ecosystem.
Maker Bhavan Foundation partners with Indian higher education institutions to build advanced makerspaces, promote project-based learning, and foster industry-academic collaborations — all aimed at nurturing engineers capable of solving real-world challenges.
