The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC) hosted the 2nd IGBC Green Andhra Summit 2026 in Vijayawada under the theme “Accelerating Green Growth in Andhra Pradesh – Towards a Net-Zero Future.” The summit brought together government officials, policymakers, urban planners, developers, architects, industry leaders and sustainability experts to discuss measures for expanding green buildings and climate-resilient development across the state.
Andhra Pradesh currently has 638 IGBC-registered projects covering 627.58 million sq. ft., of which 300 projects covering 479.60 million sq ft have achieved IGBC certification. The portfolio spans commercial, residential, industrial and logistics, built environment, transit infrastructure and Net Zero projects, reflecting the increasing adoption of sustainable construction across sectors.
A key announcement at the summit was the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s enhanced incentives for IGBC-rated green buildings. Under the revised policy, IGBC-certified projects will receive a 5% discount on Development Charges for Silver, 10% for Gold and 15% for Platinum ratings, in addition to existing reductions in Impact and AP RERA Fees of 10%, 15% and 20%, respectively. The incentives will be available at the building permission stage based on pre-certification, with final certification required before occupancy.
Dr Ponguru Narayana, Hon’ble Minister, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said the state was pursuing a development model that combines economic growth with environmental responsibility under the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision. He highlighted Amaravati’s development as a future-ready green capital and welcomed continued collaboration with IGBC.
Another major development was the release of the “Guide for Green Buildings in Andhra Pradesh” by IGBC. The handbook provides guidance to developers, architects, urban local bodies and government departments on green building registration, certification, membership and applicable state incentives.
Amaravati received the IGBC Green Cities Platinum Certification (by Design), reinforcing its position as a model for sustainable urban development. The summit also recognised projects including APCPDCL Vidyut Nilayam Corporate Office for IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating, Best Western Plus Tejvivaan for IGBC Green Existing Building Gold Rating and Sarda Metals & Alloys Ltd. for IGBC Green Factory Building Platinum Rating.
Suresh Kumar S, IAS, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said sustainable construction should be viewed as a long-term investment, noting that higher initial expenditure can be offset through savings in energy, water and operating costs. The summit featured sessions on sustainable urban development, Net Zero practices, low-carbon materials, innovative construction technologies and climate-resilient infrastructure.
More than 40 new projects covering over 1 crore sq. ft. of built-up area were registered under the IGBC Green Crusaders initiative during the summit. The event concluded with a shared commitment among government, industry and institutions to accelerate green building adoption and support Andhra Pradesh’s transition towards a resilient, resource-efficient and Net Zero future.
