Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) are exploring opportunities to strengthen the use of technology, medical devices and locally developed sports equipment for para-athletes. The focus on inclusive sports came during the visit of Hari Ranjan Rao, Director General, Sports Authority of India, to AMTZ in Visakhapatnam. During the visit, Rao reviewed AMTZ’s work in assistive technology, medical device manufacturing and para-sports initiatives.

The visit provided an opportunity to examine how medical technology, product development and manufacturing capabilities can be combined to address the specific requirements of athletes with disabilities. AMTZ also showcased its integrated ecosystem and its potential to support the development and production of specialised sports equipment in India.

AMTZ’s capabilities extend beyond para-sports and cover a wide range of applications across sporting disciplines. These include equipment and solutions for training, rehabilitation, performance improvement and recovery. The integrated manufacturing environment allows developers to work on products based on the requirements of individual athletes and sporting disciplines.

During his interaction with the AMTZ team, Shri Hari Ranjan Rao appreciated the organisation’s initiatives in para-sports and its assistive technology ecosystem. He highlighted the potential of technology-led innovation to support para-athletes, address their specific requirements and strengthen India’s inclusive sporting infrastructure.

Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder CEO, AMTZ, said technology designed around individual needs can help remove barriers for athletes with disabilities. He added that the organisation aims to develop solutions that improve mobility, confidence and performance while ensuring that athletes are not limited by the lack of suitable technology.

The engagement also opened avenues for closer cooperation between the sports and MedTech sectors. Such collaboration could support the development of specialised equipment suited to Indian athletes and encourage greater domestic manufacturing of sports and assistive technologies.

AMTZ’s manufacturing ecosystem brings together medical device development, testing, innovation and production capabilities at a single location. The model can support faster development of products that address specific requirements in healthcare and sports.

The collaboration also aligns with the broader objective of strengthening domestic capabilities and reducing dependence on imported technologies. Locally developed products can help make specialised equipment more accessible while creating opportunities for Indian manufacturers and technology developers. The visit marks a step towards closer cooperation between sports institutions and the MedTech sector. AMTZ and SAI aim to explore opportunities that can contribute to a stronger, more inclusive and technology-driven sporting ecosystem in India.
