ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) India has announced the appointment of Nobuo Okochi as Chief Financial Officer, effective July 1, 2026. The move follows the elevation of Amit Harlalka to the role of Chief Executive Officer from the same date, ensuring continuity in leadership as the company advances its growth plans.
In his new role, Mr Okochi will oversee finance, corporate strategy, financial planning, capital deployment, and governance functions. His appointment is expected to support the company’s long-term expansion strategy and focus on value creation.
Mr Okochi brings nearly four decades of experience with Nippon Steel Corporation, where he has held senior leadership positions across finance, capital budgeting, and global business development. He currently serves as Managing Executive Officer for India, ASEAN, the Middle East, and Africa, and has played a key role in driving overseas strategy and executing large-scale international projects. He holds a law degree from Sophia University Tokyo and an MBA from International University of Japan.
Commenting on the appointment, Dilip Oommen, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, said that Mr Okochi’s global perspective and experience across complex markets would strengthen the leadership team and support the company’s ambition to build a resilient and future-ready organisation.
Mr Okochi expressed confidence in the company’s direction, noting that it is supported by strong fundamentals and a clear strategic roadmap. He added that he looks forward to working closely with the leadership team to maintain financial discipline, strengthen governance practices, and contribute to sustained growth.
The leadership transition comes at a time when ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India is expanding capacity, enhancing its portfolio of value-added steel products, and advancing sustainability-led initiatives. The alignment between the incoming CFO and the new CEO is expected to ensure stability across key functions while supporting ongoing expansion projects.
AMNS India is expanding its operations with significant investments in new projects. One of the most notable initiatives is the establishment of a new integrated steel plant in Andhra Pradesh, which is expected to have an initial capacity of 7.3 MTPA. This project, once completed, will further strengthen AMNS India’s position in the Indian steel industry. The company’s commitment to technological advancement, local job creation, and contributing to India’s long-term manufacturing goals aligns with the country’s vision of a self-reliant and industrially advanced nation. As it continues to grow, AMNS India remains focused on providing high-quality steel products while driving economic growth and societal value.
