Alstom, a global leader in intelligent and sustainable mobility solutions, has announced the successful delivery of the first of 29 Innovia APM R (Automated People Mover – Replacement) vehicles to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This milestone is part of an $87 million USD contract, the largest APM replacement project in Alstom’s history and its second-largest APM initiative in the Americas.
This order represents the third procurement of Innovia APM vehicles by the airport, bringing the cumulative total to 63 units. The newly delivered vehicles are designed to improve operational reliability, reduce the likelihood of in-service disruptions, and support the airport’s growing transportation needs.
Recognized as the world’s busiest airport by passenger volume, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport handled over 108 million travelers in 2024. Alstom’s experience in delivering comprehensive transit system solutions will facilitate a seamless transition to the new fleet, aligning with the airport’s long-term mobility and infrastructure goals.
The additional APM vehicles will support the expansion of the Plane Train system, which connects terminals within the airport. This extension is intended to increase capacity, enhance multimodal connectivity, and deliver improved service efficiency to meet rising passenger demand.
Manufacturing of the Innovia APM R vehicles is taking place at Alstom’s dedicated facility in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania—North America’s primary production site for APM technology. The latest vehicle model incorporates advanced energy-efficient systems, increased top operating speeds, and a lightweight aluminum structure compliant with stringent safety and sustainability standards. Each full train set is capable of accommodating up to 900 passengers.
