Agratas has announced a major step forward in workforce development through a formal partnership with UCS College Group, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement establishes UCS College Group as the designated training provider and coordinator for skills development linked to Agratas’ planned battery manufacturing facility in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The facility is set to become the UK’s largest battery manufacturing site, supporting the country’s transition to clean energy by producing battery cells for automotive and energy storage applications. Once fully operational, the site is expected to generate more than 4,000 jobs and contribute over £700 million annually to the South West economy.

The MoU was signed by Andy Berry and Becki Robertson, with Phil Smith उपस्थित to mark the occasion. The collaboration comes at a critical time as the UK seeks to strengthen its domestic manufacturing capabilities and meet rising demand for renewable energy technologies.

Becki Robertson highlighted the partnership as a significant milestone in building a future-ready workforce. She emphasized the importance of creating accessible career pathways and equipping local communities with the skills required for advanced manufacturing and sustainable technologies. By appointing UCS College Group as the primary skills partner, Agratas aims to ensure high-quality training opportunities aligned with industry needs.

Andy Berry noted that such collaborations between education providers and industry investors are essential for delivering large-scale infrastructure projects and enhancing the UK’s global competitiveness as a high-skilled investment destination. He reaffirmed UCS College Group’s commitment to developing innovative training solutions tailored to Agratas’ requirements.

Phil Smith underscored the broader national impact, pointing to the thousands of jobs and apprenticeships the project will generate. He highlighted the role of Skills England in supporting sector-specific training solutions, including the introduction of a new battery manufacturing apprenticeship unit.

With construction already underway, Agratas has launched an online portal for local residents to register interest in upcoming roles. The initial recruitment phase will focus on approximately 1,600 positions across operations, engineering, quality, logistics, and technical functions, marking the beginning of a major employment opportunity in the region. This partnership represents a significant step toward building the skilled workforce required to power the UK’s clean energy future.
