Energetics Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited and part of Bharat Forge Limited, has announced the groundbreaking of its new strategic defence manufacturing facility near Madakasira in Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The project marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem and reducing dependence on imported energetic materials.
The integrated defence manufacturing campus will be spread across more than 1,000 acres and is planned with an investment of approximately ₹1,500 crore over the next two to four years. The upcoming facility will focus on the production of advanced ammunition systems, propellants, rockets, pyrotechnic systems, and high-energy materials designed for defence, aerospace, and space applications.
The facility is being developed with advanced production technologies, specialised logistics infrastructure, and high-safety testing systems aimed at supporting modern defence manufacturing requirements. Once operational, the project is expected to substantially improve India’s domestic capabilities in the field of advanced energetics, a strategically important sector linked closely to national defence preparedness and aerospace technologies.
The company stated that the project is expected to create nearly 800 direct employment opportunities while also generating approximately 2,500 indirect jobs across supporting industries and services. Apart from contributing to local economic development, the investment is also expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a growing hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing in India.
Agneyastra Energetics Limited has been established with the objective of building indigenous capabilities in the production of critical energetic materials that are currently dependent on imports. The company plans to develop globally compliant products designed and manufactured in India to meet the requirements of domestic defence programs as well as export markets.
The initiative aligns closely with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme, which encourages domestic manufacturing, technological self-reliance, and import substitution in strategically important industries. Through the new facility, the company aims to contribute toward creating local value chains and strengthening India’s long-term defence industrial capabilities.
