AGI Greenpac Limited has commenced construction of a new aluminium beverage can manufacturing facility in Hathras, marking a major step in its expansion into sustainable packaging solutions. The greenfield project, spread across 34 acres, involves an investment of ₹1,000 crore and is designed to serve as a high-capacity, technology-driven production hub.

The facility is being developed with advanced, high-speed manufacturing systems aligned with global standards for efficiency, precision, and scalability. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the first half of 2027. In its initial phase, the plant will operate two production lines with a combined capacity of 1.6 billion cans annually, with output targeted at 1.3 billion cans per year.

Each production line has been engineered for future expansion and can be upgraded to produce up to 1 billion cans per line through process optimisation and the addition of advanced necking technology. This will enable the plant to scale beyond 2 billion cans annually, supporting long-term growth in demand.

The facility will manufacture a wide range of aluminium beverage cans, including standard, sleek, and slim formats. These products will cater to diverse beverage segments such as carbonated drinks, beer, energy drinks, and ready-to-drink offerings. The plant’s multi-format capability and scalable design will allow the company to adapt quickly to changing market trends.

Commenting on the development, Rajesh Khosla, CEO of AGI Greenpac Limited, stated that the investment reflects confidence in India’s growth potential and the expanding opportunities within the packaging sector. He noted that the project will enhance manufacturing efficiency, strengthen logistics capabilities, and support responsible production practices while contributing to regional economic development.

Sustainability has been integrated into the plant’s design from the outset. The facility is being developed to achieve a Platinum Green Building rating under India’s green building framework. Emphasis has been placed on resource efficiency, energy optimisation, and environmentally responsible operations. Aluminium, being infinitely recyclable without loss of quality, aligns with the increasing focus on circular economy practices in the beverage industry.

Strategically located in Uttar Pradesh, the plant offers proximity to key consumption markets across North and Central India. This positioning is expected to improve delivery timelines, reduce logistics costs, and support just-in-time supply chains for beverage manufacturers.

With an existing presence in container glass through AGI Glaspac, AGI Greenpac aims to leverage cross-segment synergies and strengthen its position as an integrated packaging partner. The company’s expansion into aluminium cans comes at a time when India’s can manufacturing capacity is growing steadily, driven by rising consumption and demand for sustainable packaging formats.
