Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), India’s largest private transmission and distribution company and part of the diversified Adani portfolio, has secured a major inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh with an estimated investment of approximately ₹8,500 crore. The project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I)”, has been awarded to AESL under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework of the Government of India, following the company emerging as the most competitive bidder.
The transmission system has been designed to support the integration and supply of electricity required for upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag region, catering to an estimated power demand of 4,500 MW. The project will also strengthen the electricity infrastructure supporting the anticipated growth of digital and industrial developments in the Pendurthi–Vizag corridor, which is witnessing increasing investments in data centres and related infrastructure.
The project will be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, and will involve the development of high-capacity transmission infrastructure, including a 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi (Vizag) and a 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation.
With the addition of this project, AESL will expand its transmission network by 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and add 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity. This will increase AESL’s overall transmission footprint to 29,531 ckm and its transformation capacity to 1,33,675 MVA, further strengthening its position as a leading private transmission infrastructure provider in India.
Commenting on the project, Kandarp Patel, CEO, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, said, “The Vizag transmission project is an important step in building the energy backbone for India’s next generation of industrial growth. It will support the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the grid for emerging digital infrastructure demand in the Pendurthi–Vizag region. As India moves towards a cleaner and more technology-driven economy, AESL remains committed to developing resilient and future-ready transmission networks that enable sustainable growth at scale.”
Vizag is emerging as a significant infrastructure hub, supported by investments in artificial intelligence-driven data centres, hyperscale digital facilities, subsea connectivity, logistics networks, clean energy projects and industrial development. As demand for green molecules and digital infrastructure accelerates, reliable and high-capacity power transmission will play a critical role in ensuring energy security, grid stability and long-term economic competitiveness.
The project is scheduled for completion within 30 months and will contribute to India’s broader transition towards clean energy, industrial decarbonisation and advanced digital infrastructure.AESL continues to expand its presence across power transmission, electricity distribution, smart metering and cooling solutions.
