Adani Power Limited (APL), India’s largest private-sector thermal power producer, announced today that it has been awarded a total of 1,600 MW capacity by MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) under the recently concluded tendering process.

APL has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from MPPMCL for an additional 800 MW capacity under the Greenshoe Option, following its earlier win of 800 MW in the same bidding process. This marks APL’s fifth major power supply order in the last 12 months, taking its total awarded capacity during this period to 7,200 MW.

The new capacity will be supplied from a 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW) ultra-supercritical thermal power project to be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh. Both units are scheduled to be commissioned within 60 months of the appointed date. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹21,000 crore and will operate at a tariff of ₹5.838/kWh, the same as the previously awarded capacity.

SB Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Power, said “We are delighted to have secured not only the initial 800 MW but also an additional 800 MW under the Greenshoe Option. This award reinforces our commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable power to Madhya Pradesh while supporting India’s long-term energy security and growth. The project strengthens our partnership with the state and highlights our focus on meeting India’s rising electricity demand.”

The plant’s coal linkage has been secured under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy, ensuring fuel supply reliability. The project is expected to generate 9,000–10,000 jobs during construction and about 2,000 jobs during operations. A Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the state distribution company will be executed in due course.

APL is implementing India’s largest private-sector capex program to address growing base-load demand. With a current operating capacity of 18.15 GW across 12 thermal power plants, the company is targeting an overall capacity of 41.87 GW by FY 2031–32.

Adani Power Limited (APL), part of the Adani portfolio, is India’s largest private thermal power producer with an installed capacity of 18,110 MW across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu, along with a 40 MW solar plant in Gujarat. Backed by world-class expertise, technology, and innovation, APL is committed to transforming India into a power-surplus nation by delivering affordable, reliable electricity for all.
