The Adani Group has been selected as an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026, an international observance led by UNESCO and implemented by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).
World Engineering Day highlights the role of engineering in addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable development. The 2026 edition carries the theme “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalization.”
The partnership recognises the Adani Group’s work in developing large-scale infrastructure across energy, utilities, transportation and logistics. The company has been expanding its renewable energy portfolio while investing in infrastructure projects designed to support India’s long-term energy and sustainability goals.
Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy, said large-scale renewable projects are demonstrating that clean power can be developed while remaining economically viable and accessible. He noted that India’s approach to energy development reflects a model where economic growth and environmental responsibility can progress together.
A central focus of the collaboration is the renewable energy project being developed at Khavda in the Kutch district of Gujarat. The project is planned as one of the world’s largest renewable energy installations, with a targeted capacity of 30 gigawatts by 2029.
The project covers roughly 538 square kilometres of land and will combine solar and wind generation technologies. More than 7 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity has already been commissioned at the site.
The facility incorporates several advanced technologies, including large onshore wind turbines, bifacial solar photovoltaic modules that generate power from both sides of the panel, and single-axis solar tracking systems designed to increase energy output.
Operational management of the plant will be supported by the Energy Network Operation Centre (ENOC), a digital platform that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to monitor and optimise plant performance. Waterless robotic systems are also used to clean solar modules in order to address dust accumulation while conserving water resources in the arid Kutch region. Beyond energy generation, the project also includes community initiatives in nearby villages focusing on education, healthcare, water conservation and local infrastructure development.
The Adani Group is one of India’s largest and fastest-growing multinational conglomerates. Founded in 1988 by Gautam Adani, the company is headquartered in Ahmedabad. The group operates in several key sectors including ports, logistics, energy, mining, airports, infrastructure, and renewable power.
Through its flagship company, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, it manages some of the largest commercial ports in India. Over the years, the Adani Group has expanded globally and plays a significant role in India’s infrastructure development and energy transition, especially through investments in solar and green energy projects. Today, it is considered a major contributor to India’s economic growth and industrial development.
