ABB has successfully implemented a comprehensive power distribution and water management automation solution at Noida International Airport, India’s newest international aviation hub set to begin operations in April 2026. Designed to handle 12 million passengers annually in its initial phase, the airport requires a robust, energy-efficient, and future-ready infrastructure to support critical operations. These include terminal services, airfield operations, passenger movement systems, baggage handling, ventilation, safety infrastructure, and integrated water management systems. With plans to expand capacity to 70 million passengers annually, scalability and reliability remain central to the airport’s design.

ABB’s electrification solutions ensure seamless and uninterrupted power distribution across the airport. At the core is the 33kV Gas Insulated Switchgear ZX2, which enables safe and dependable power transmission from the main receiving substation. Complementing this, ABB’s low-voltage panels and distribution boards provide stable 415V power supply, minimizing downtime risks across essential systems such as emergency power, lighting, ventilation, transportation systems, and energy management.

In parallel, ABB has deployed advanced automation technologies for water and wastewater management using its AC500 PLC and SCADA systems. These systems enable real-time monitoring, early leak detection, consistent quality control, and optimized water usage. The solution supports sustainable operations by reducing reliance on freshwater resources, enabling water recycling, and ensuring safe drinking water availability.

Kiran Dutt, President – Electrification at ABB India, stated that the project reflects a forward-looking approach to infrastructure development. He emphasized that the scalable solutions not only meet current operational demands but are also designed to support future expansion. He further noted that such projects contribute to India’s long-term vision of sustainable growth, resilient infrastructure, and enhanced global competitiveness.

As airports become increasingly complex ecosystems, ABB’s integrated approach to electrification and automation ensures operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The Noida International Airport project stands as a model for next-generation airport infrastructure in India and beyond.

With over 140 years of engineering expertise and a global workforce of approximately 110,000 employees, ABB delivers technologies that help industries operate more efficiently and sustainably. Through its Automation business, the company supports critical sectors including energy, water, manufacturing and transport, helping organizations improve performance while reducing environmental impact.
