ABB has announced the launch of EmissionVision™, a new workflow management platform designed to improve the speed and efficiency of methane leak detection and repair across the natural gas sector. The solution expands ABB’s leak detection portfolio and supports the industry’s transition toward more advanced, data-driven approaches.

EmissionVision is built on ABB’s proprietary OA-ICOS™ laser absorption technology and is designed to integrate the full leak detection process into a single digital environment. By linking emission identification, field inspections and data analysis, the platform enables operators to manage emissions more effectively while maintaining complete traceability from initial detection through to resolution.

As regulatory pressure intensifies and the need for accurate methane monitoring grows, many operators are shifting away from manual inspection methods. While mobile technologies such as ABB’s MobileGuard and MicroGuard have improved detection capabilities, they have also introduced new challenges related to data management, workflow coordination and task assignment. EmissionVision addresses these issues by automating workflows, organizing field activities and consolidating data into a unified system.

The platform is powered by ABB Ability™ Cloud Analytics, providing real-time visibility into leak investigations and ensuring seamless data integration across devices and locations. Information collected through mobile surveys and follow-up inspections is automatically synchronized, giving operators a centralized view of work orders, progress and outcomes.

EmissionVision offers a range of capabilities designed to improve operational performance. These include automated task assignment for field technicians, end-to-end tracking of work orders with a complete audit trail, and offline functionality that preserves data integrity even in areas with limited connectivity. The platform also supports integration with both ABB and third-party devices, allowing for flexible deployment across different operational environments. In addition, it meets IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards, ensuring secure handling of sensitive data.

By simplifying complex workflows and improving data accuracy, EmissionVision enables organizations to detect and address gas leaks more quickly. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports compliance with environmental regulations and contributes to reduced methane emissions.

The launch reflects ABB’s continued focus on digitalization and automation in industrial operations. With over 140 years of engineering expertise and a global workforce of approximately 110,000 employees, ABB delivers technologies that help industries operate more efficiently and sustainably. Through its Automation business, the company supports critical sectors including energy, water, manufacturing and transport, helping organizations improve performance while reducing environmental impact.
