ABB has launched AquaMaster+™, a digital platform designed to help water utilities monitor, analyse and manage water distribution networks more effectively, with a focus on reducing water losses and improving operational efficiency. The integrated platform combines hardware, advanced software capabilities and cloud-based decision-making tools to provide water utilities with greater visibility into network performance. AquaMaster+ is available for utilities using ABB’s AquaMaster4™ flowmeters and can also be deployed as a standalone software solution integrated with existing systems.
“With pressure mounting on water resources globally, a great deal of work is done to prevent losses in the distribution system and to help save water through more efficient resource management,” said Raghu Kumar NV, Global Product Manager, ABB’s Measurement & Analytics division. “AquaMaster+ will enable this work by connecting water utilities to crucial flow measurement insights from their AquaMaster4 or other devices, helping the water sector outrun – leaner and cleaner.”
AquaMaster+ provides fleet-level visibility through features including an overview of connected devices and GIS mapping. At the individual device level, the platform provides insights into changes in flow and pressure, device diagnostics and remote configuration capabilities.
Remote configuration and management can help utilities respond more quickly to network issues while reducing the need for field visits and associated travel costs. Real-time monitoring supports proactive identification of potential problems, allowing operators to investigate and respond before issues escalate.
The platform stores device and general event logs, enabling utilities to compare parameters such as flow rate and pressure over time. This helps operators identify unusual patterns and potential anomalies at an early stage. AquaMaster+ also supports virtual flowmeters, enabling users to model different network scenarios and compare potential outcomes. By simulating real-world operating conditions, utilities can assess possible interventions and make more informed decisions about network management.
Designed for ease of use, the platform features intuitive navigation and requires minimal training. This allows operators to access critical information quickly while reducing the potential for human error. ABB’s AquaMaster flowmeters measure water flow in real time and track the quantity of water moving through distribution networks. The technology provides measurement accuracy at flow velocities below 0.1 metres per second and can help detect leaks faster than many conventional approaches.
In 2022, AquaMaster4 Mobile Comms became the world’s first electromagnetic flowmeter with bidirectional connectivity. With more than 50 years of experience in the water industry, ABB provides a broad portfolio of technologies for water management and water analysis. AquaMaster+ further expands ABB’s digital offering for water utilities, combining measurement data with software-based analysis and decision-making capabilities to support more efficient and sustainable water network operations.
