ABB Robotics has made an investment in California-based LandingAI to accelerate advancements in robotic vision, making it faster, more user-friendly, and accessible to a wider audience. This groundbreaking partnership will integrate LandingAI’s vision technology, including LandingLens™, into ABB Robotics’ software platform, marking a key step toward developing more autonomous and adaptable robots.

“This announcement builds on our ongoing commitment to innovation over the past decade, aimed at improving robot capabilities to extend their use beyond traditional manufacturing,” said Sami Atiya, President of ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation. “The growing need for smarter robots is driven by demands for increased flexibility, quicker setup times, and a shortage of specialized programming skills. Partnering with LandingAI will reduce installation and deployment from weeks to just hours, allowing more companies to adopt automation efficiently.”

As part of the partnership, ABB has made a strategic investment through ABB Robotics Ventures, the company’s venture capital arm focused on supporting early-stage innovators shaping the future of robotics and automation. Financial details were not disclosed. LandingAI’sLandingLens platform enables rapid training of vision systems to identify objects, patterns, or defects without the need for complex coding or specialist knowledge.

This collaboration will cut down vision system training and deployment time by as much as 80 percent. After deployment, system integrators and users will be able to retrain the system for new tasks independently, boosting versatility. This progress is crucial for expanding the use of robots in changing environments beyond traditional manufacturing sectors, especially in fast-paced industries such as logistics, healthcare, and food and beverage. ABB is already testing LandingAI’s technology and working on integrating it into existing vision applications like item picking, sorting, depalletizing, and quality inspections.

“Technological progress is rapid, creating many new opportunities but also demanding continuous learning and skill development,” said Dan Maloney, CEO of LandingAI. “Combining LandingAI’s vision capabilities with ABB’s robots and software will simplify automation, making it easier for companies to implement and scale intelligent robotic solutions that deliver real-world value.”

ABB Robotics is the only robotics company offering a fully integrated vision training tool within its software suite. This will be available alongside ABB’s RobotStudio® platform, which includes simulation and digital twin features to simplify system setup.
