ABB and CerilonSoft, an engineering subsidiary of Calgary-based energy company Cerilon Inc, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on industrial process automation, power generation and digital solutions for greenfield and brownfield facilities worldwide. The agreement will bring together the companies’ engineering and technology capabilities, with a focus on improving operational performance, reliability and energy efficiency.

The collaboration will examine opportunities to develop and deliver integrated automation and digital solutions for energy facilities, including power generation infrastructure for data centres responding to growing artificial intelligence (AI) demand. The companies will also explore applications across chemicals, refining and other industrial sectors.

ABB will contribute its expertise in automation, electrification and digital technologies, while CerilonSoft will bring capabilities in consulting, operations management, asset management and business analytics. Their combined offering will aim to help industrial operators improve asset performance and profitability, both during facility design and throughout operations.

Marius Knoesen, Director of CerilonSoft, said, “This agreement demonstrates our approach to collaborating with world-class partners and builds on an already successful relationship with ABB. The MoU sets out how we can work together to develop and deliver real value through smarter engineering, leveraging digital solutions and automation systems for customers, initially in Canada but expanding worldwide as opportunities arise. This will include highly reliable, off-grid gas-powered facilities designed for improved performance to support large scale data centres, as well as power and process optimization solutions in the chemicals and refining industries.”

Ben Venter, Local Division Manager of ABB’s Energy Industries division in Canada, said, “Enabling future-ready facilities is central to this collaboration. By working with our customers to co-design and co-deliver integrated process automation solutions, we will bridge the gap between the traditional IT and OT and empower them to achieve enhanced performance through data-driven operations.”

As part of the wider relationship, ABB will provide front-end design services to Cerilon GTL Inc., an affiliate of CerilonSoft, for its first gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant. The work will include integrated automation and digital solutions. Experience gained through this project is expected to inform the development of further process and power optimisation offerings by the two companies.

The collaboration will focus on addressing operational challenges through improved engineering, connected systems and data-driven decision-making. Initial opportunities will be pursued in Canada, with the potential to extend joint solutions to international markets.
