In turning operations, the new technology achieves the highest possible metal removal rates at the lowest possible cost per cutting edge. A unique clamping system pulls the insert into the pocket seat, enabling the insert to withstand large cutting forces & vibrations. Large depth of cut (up to 12mm) and feed rate (up to 1.4mm) capabilities ensure highest possible metal removal rates in steel, cast iron, and stainless steel.

The FIX8TM heavy-duty turning system from Kennametal delivers maximum metal removal rates in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. With eight cutting edges per insert, the FIX8 turning system boosts efficiency in any heavy-duty turning operation while lowering cost per edge and cutting forces by up to 15%.

“FIX8 is a versatile tool that may be used for a variety of tasks, including turning and facing, smooth surfaces, interrupted, and strongly interrupted cuts", says Matthew Fuerst, Kennametal Product Manager.

He further adds, "FIX8 can handle everything from medium depth-of-cut to roughing in steels, cast iron, and difficult materials like stainless steel. With FIX8, even severe feed speeds of up to 1.4mm (0.055”) and cut depths of up to 12mm (0.472”) are achievable,”

The tangential design of the FIX8 insert includes a solid clamping system that secures the insert in the pocket seat, allowing it to withstand large cutting pressures and vibrations for excellent performance.

FIX8 tool holder

A replaceable carbide shim supports the insert and protects the pocket from deformation and damage.

The precision 3D coolant technology in the FIX8 tool holder ensures that enough coolant is delivered precisely where it is needed. The rake face is cooled by three coolant nozzles, which manage temperature, chip evacuation, and chip creation. Coolant exit holes at two positions send coolant onto the insert’s flank, reducing heat in the cutting zone and extending tool life.

FIX8 improves tool life while providing superior chip control for any heavy-duty turning operation. Cutting forces and power consumption are reduced by the insert design, making it perfect for low horsepower lathes.
