From a Single Drill Machine to a Milling Machine

Om Prakash Chhabra, Managing Director of VT Tools Private Limited started his entrepreneurial journey in 1978 with two partners. He completed his diploma in IT in 1975 and worked for a company before venturing into the business. They began with a single drill machine costing 900 rupees, working at the company during the day and on their business at night. After a year, they secured their first loan of 7000 rupees and bought a grinder machine, followed by a lathe machine. They then innovatively combined these machines to enhance their capabilities, taking on drilling tasks for various parts and earning payments.

In 1983, Om Prakash started his own business with the milling machine, with the thought “I was planning from the beginning was that I never went to anyone to ask for work, those who knew, they kept coming to me.” This approach paid off, with prominent companies like Penthouse, Hindustan Brown Bowery, and NEPCO Gear recommending VT Tools for key cutting.

Originally named Prakash Tools, the company rebranded to VT Tools in 1990, with VT representing his sons Vikash and Tarun. They worked with top-notch machines and participated in multiple exhibitions, promoting themselves both in India and worldwide. Starting from 6 by 8 space, VT Tools now operates in a 1200 square yard facility with a turnover of 1.5 crore. They employ 30 people and have fully automated machines. Their philosophy emphasizes that quality speaks for itself; delivering the best quality ensures that customers come to them without the need to seek out orders.

VT Tools specializes in high-quality CNC machine tooling and accessories such as boring bars, tool holders, sleeves, tool pockets, soft jaws, round jaws, VMC accessories, and various special jaws. Their precision-manufactured holders with fine grinding and excellent concentricity ensure top-notch machining performance. They help customers lower costs and increase efficiency, meeting the requirements of advanced technology. Their products are widely appreciated for robust construction, high endurance, dimensional accuracy, corrosion resistance, high strength, and durability.

Their strong dealer network significantly contributes to their growth. Mr Chhabra proudly states “Our dealers have so much stock that we do not have. They also have 10-15 dealers.” Their products cost at 2000 rupees, are much more affordable than those of big companies, which cost around 17000 rupees. VT Tools never compromises on quality and confidently guarantees their products. They assure, “If our tool holder breaks, you don’t need to give us money for that.” With advanced machines like Mazak, VMC, and BFW, they produce products with high precision.
