STMicroelectronics Expands 800V DC Power Solutions for AI Data Centers in Collaboration with NVIDIA

STMicroelectronics

STMicroelectronics has expanded its 800V DC power conversion portfolio with the introduction of new 12V and 6V architectures, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA. The announcement strengthens the company’s position in enabling next-generation AI data center infrastructure.

The new architectures build on STMicroelectronics’ previously introduced 800V to 50V solution and align with NVIDIA’s 800V DC reference design. Together, these solutions support the growing transition toward high-voltage power distribution systems in AI data centers, designed to improve efficiency, reduce energy losses, and enable higher compute density.

As AI workloads continue to scale, data centers are increasingly adopting higher voltage distribution to meet power and performance demands. The addition of 12V and 6V conversion stages reflects the need for flexible power delivery systems tailored to different server designs, GPU configurations, and cooling requirements.

The 800V to 12V solution enables efficient power delivery from rack-level systems to voltage domains supporting advanced AI processors. Meanwhile, the 800V to 6V architecture allows system designers to reduce conversion stages and bring power delivery closer to GPUs. This approach helps lower resistive losses, reduce material usage, and improve system responsiveness—key advantages for large-scale AI training and inference environments.

The expanded portfolio combines STMicroelectronics’ expertise across multiple semiconductor technologies, including silicon, silicon carbide, and gallium nitride, along with advanced analog and control capabilities. These technologies enable compact, high-efficiency power solutions suited for modern AI infrastructure.

Marco Cassis, President of Analog, Power & Discrete, MEMS and Sensors at STMicroelectronics, said the evolution of AI infrastructure requires system-level innovation to achieve higher density and efficiency. He added that the company’s expanded portfolio provides a comprehensive set of solutions to support scalable and sustainable data center architectures.

With these developments, STMicroelectronics is addressing the growing demand for energy-efficient power systems in hyperscale data centers. The company continues to focus on enabling advanced computing while supporting broader sustainability goals, including reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency across the technology ecosystem.
