IMI plc has been selected to supply specialised control valves for a major offshore oil and gas development in the North Sea, reinforcing its expertise in delivering engineered solutions for extreme operating environments. The contract involves the supply of advanced valves designed for ultra-high-pressure injection systems, where operating pressures exceed 600 bar (8,700 psi). These systems play a critical role in chemical injection processes that maintain flow assurance and optimise production from deep offshore wells.

IMI will deliver its EroSolve Metamorphic Trim valve range, which has been specifically engineered to provide precise and stable pressure control under severe service conditions. The valves are capable of handling full pressure drops from over 600 bar to near vacuum levels while maintaining accurate low-flow regulation, a requirement essential for safe and efficient offshore operations.

The technology incorporates a multi-stage pressure reduction mechanism that allows controlled energy dissipation across the valve trim. This design helps protect internal components from excessive wear, ensuring durability and consistent performance in demanding environments.

The selection follows the successful completion of a comprehensive endurance testing programme, during which both balanced and unbalanced valve configurations were subjected to conditions replicating long-term field operations. The results demonstrated the reliability and repeatability required for safety-critical applications in offshore production systems.

Company representatives noted that offshore developments are increasingly moving into deeper and more challenging environments, requiring advanced engineering solutions capable of operating under extreme pressures. The EroSolve Metamorphic Trim valves have been developed specifically to meet these demands, offering a combination of precision, resilience and long-term reliability.

The project forms part of a broader offshore development programme and is progressing in line with the customer’s delivery timeline. IMI’s involvement underscores its role in supporting energy infrastructure projects that demand high-performance equipment and strict adherence to safety and operational standards. By delivering solutions tailored to complex offshore conditions, IMI continues to strengthen its position as a trusted partner in the global energy sector.
