As part of the National Road Safety Month observed from January 1 to 31, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, conducted a series of road safety refresher workshops for drivers in New Delhi. The programmes were aimed at reinforcing awareness of traffic rules and promoting safer driving practices among commercial vehicle and three-wheeler drivers.
The workshops were organised under SIAM’s road safety initiative, ‘सुरक्षितसफर(Safe Journey)’, with support from member companies as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. A refresher workshop for commercial vehicle drivers was held on January 12, 2026, at the Institute of Driving Training & Research (IDTR), Loni/Burari. This was followed by a workshop for three-wheeler drivers on January 15, 2026, at IDTR, Sarai Kale Khan. More than 200 drivers participated across both programmes.
As part of the initiative, participating drivers underwent health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar and eye examinations. Eyewear was distributed to drivers where required, with support from the Eicher Group Foundation and Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital.
The programmes also included structured road safety training sessions conducted by instructors from IDTR and officials from the Delhi Traffic Police. The sessions covered traffic regulations, defensive driving methods and responsible road behaviour, using interactive formats to encourage participation and discussion.
Senior officials from the Delhi Traffic Police, including Assistant Commissioners of Police Dheeraj Narang and Praveen Kumar, along with other officers, attended the workshops. Representatives from SIAM and the automobile industry interacted with drivers and highlighted the importance of regular training and awareness to reduce road accidents.
SIAM stated that it will continue to work with enforcement agencies and industry partners to promote road safety education across the country.
