Motorica, a leading international medical technology company focused on advanced prosthetic development, has introduced its new digital prosthetics initiative in India. This move aims to redefine how prosthetic limbs are designed, produced, and delivered, especially in regions where access to customized care remains limited.
The program introduces a digital-first process for manufacturing prosthetic arms, using a combination of 3D imaging, computer-aided design, and high-precision 3D printing. Instead of relying on traditional casting and shipping physical molds, Motorica now captures limb geometry through digital modeling, allowing remote design and faster production without compromising fit or quality.
Final design, printing, and assembly are carried out at Motorica’s high-tech facility in Moscow. The company’s digital infrastructure ensures seamless collaboration between clinicians in India and engineers abroad, drastically cutting lead times while improving accuracy.
Initial success stories in India have already proven the system’s effectiveness. Partner clinics collaborated with Motorica by taking a series of photographs of patients’ limbs using standard mobile phones. These images were then converted into accurate 3D models using photogrammetry, bypassing the need for expensive scanning equipment. The prostheses were then manufactured and delivered in a fraction of the time usually required for conventional fabrication.
Kavinder Beniwal, Chief Operating Officer at Motorica India, stated “We’re not looking to replace traditional methods—but rather to support prosthetists with tools that make their work faster and more efficient. With this technology, we eliminate routine bottlenecks, giving clinicians more time to focus on the unique needs of their patients. At the same time, people in remote areas can now access world-class prosthetics much more easily.”
This initiative reflects Motorica’s broader vision of using innovation to make healthcare solutions more inclusive. By combining engineering with medical insight, the company aims to expand availability of advanced prosthetics across India in collaboration with hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nonprofit organizations.
Founded in 2015, Motorica has grown into one of the top global players in the field of upper limb prosthetics. The company designs and manufactures advanced limb replacement systems for adults and children as young as two years old.
To date, over 8,000 Motorica prosthetic devices have been delivered to users in 17 countries, including India, Vietnam, Russia, and across the Middle East and North Africa. Motorica entered the Indian market in 2025 with an office in New Delhi and has since partnered with over 25 clinics across key regions such as Delhi NCR, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and more.
The company utilizes advanced manufacturing techniques such as selective laser sintering (SLS), robotics, precision metalworking, and embedded microelectronics. Prostheses can be customized with natural-looking skin tones or uniquely styled finishes, thanks to Motorica’s in-house design studio. In 2024, Motorica expanded its offerings to include lower limb prosthetics, launching carbon fiber foot models through a partnership with Turkish firm IB-ER, aimed at meeting rising demand in India and other regions.
Motorica also leads cutting-edge research in restoring sensory function and reducing phantom limb pain in amputees. This includes trials involving implanted electrodes that stimulate nerve pathways, allowing users to feel object hardness, texture, and size—bringing a new level of functionality to prosthetic limbs. In recognition of its contributions, Motorica received the BRICS Solutions Award in 2024 for its innovations in biotechnology and national healthcare advancement.
