The Association of Indian Forging Industry (AIFI) put the spotlight on India’s growing strength in advanced manufacturing at the 24th International Forging Congress (IFC 2025) in Frankfurt, Germany. Representing one of the world’s most dynamic forging sectors, AIFI President Yash J Munot delivered a keynote address highlighting India’s cutting-edge manufacturing ecosystem, rising global collaborations, and strong commitment to sustainable industrial growth. Mr Munot emphasized India’s position as the second-largest forging producer worldwide, playing an increasingly vital role in the global supply network.
In his address titled “Forging India’s Future – Partnering with the World,” Mr Munot traced India’s forging journey from traditional manufacturing to a technology-driven powerhouse. He noted that India’s progress is built on a foundation of innovation, skill, and sustainability. “India has evolved from a land of opportunity to a land of action,” he said. “Our forging sector reflects this transformation—advancing from labour-intensive processes to capital- and technology-intensive manufacturing through Industry 4.0, automation, and AI. In a rapidly changing global landscape, India offers reliability, scalability, and innovation, making it a trusted partner for industries worldwide.”
India’s forging industry currently produces 2.9 million metric tonnes annually with a total installed capacity of 4.8 million MT and investments of USD 3.8 billion, employing over 300,000 people. The sector supplies high-precision components to automotive, aerospace, railways, defence, construction, and general engineering industries, with exports accounting for nearly 30% of total production across Europe, North America, and Asia. The adoption of advanced digital technologies, energy-efficient furnaces, and circular manufacturing practices continues to make Indian forging more competitive and environmentally responsible.
Mr Munot also outlined AIFI’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen industry capability and global competitiveness, including the establishment of a Forging Simulation Centre in Pune. This facility will empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with access to digital tools for process optimization and productivity improvement. He further announced the 4th edition of Forgetech India, scheduled for October 2026, which will bring together global industry stakeholders to foster collaboration, technology exchange, and innovation.
Founded in 1965, AIFI is India’s apex body representing over 200 forging companies across the country. The association plays a key role in advancing policy dialogue, promoting technology adoption, and strengthening India’s position as a global leader in forgings. The Indian forging industry supports critical sectors such as automotive, power, railways, and general engineering, contributing significantly to manufacturing growth and employment generation. With India now ranked as the second-largest forging producer globally, AIFI continues to drive the industry’s evolution toward a more connected, competitive, and sustainable future.
