The debut of the S23 and next-gen grinding advancements highlight the Swiss company’s ongoing commitment to helping customers maintain a competitive edge. Fritz Studer AG celebrates a successful showing at EMO 2025 in Hanover.
“We’re thrilled with the enthusiastic response our innovations received from international visitors,” stated CEO Sandro Bottazzo. The Swiss leader in cylindrical grinding machines unveiled a range of new technologies at the global manufacturing trade event held from September 22 to 26.
Global Debut of the S23 and Enhanced favorit CNC Generation
A standout moment was the world introduction of the S23, a universal cylindrical grinding machine that blends cutting-edge technology with maximum precision in a compact design. The S23 bridges the gap between entry-level and premium models, offering high-end features such as the C.O.R.E. hardware and software architecture, an automatic B-axis with 1° Hirth serration for up to three grinding tools, and a Granitan base that provides superior thermal and vibration properties.
Also drawing significant attention was the newly upgraded favoritCNC. This well-established entry-level machine now comes with an advanced CNC control (Fanuc 0i-TFP), an automated operating door, a loader interface for automation, a resource-efficient belt spindle system, and a sturdier machine base that offers increased stability. The addition of the Conventional Mode simplifies the transition between manual and CNC grinding operations.
Cutting-Edge Axis System and WireDress® Revolutionize Internal Grinding
At the exhibition, STUDER showcased an innovative axis system on the S31 universal cylindrical grinding machine, designed for both small and large workpieces. The system introduces a long W-axis that automates the adjustment of the tailstock position based on varying workpiece lengths. Furthermore, an active R-axis, combined with an in-process measuring system, scans complex workpiece geometries, ensuring precise measurements and improved accuracy. A standout feature of this system is the direct measurement of clamping force, displayed on the control screen, ensuring consistent and reproducible workpiece positioning.
The event also marked the introduction of the WireDress® non-contact dressing system for internal cylindrical grinding. Leveraging wire electrical discharge machining (EDM), this technology enables new geometric shaping possibilities with diamond and CBN grinding wheels featuring sintered metal bonds. The new internal grinding spindle delivers current at full grinding speed, unlocking greater precision and efficiency.
“In EMO 2025, we demonstrated our ongoing commitment to driving success for our customers,” said Pascal Schärer, Sales Manager for Central Europe. “A combination of reliable, innovative grinding solutions offers clear advantages in terms of competitiveness.”
