Jindal Steel has taken a significant leap in domestic steel production with the launch of a 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) blast furnace in Angul, Odisha. The newly commissioned Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace – II, a major industrial asset, was officially ignited under the leadership of Chairman Naveen Jindal.
With a working volume of 5,499 cubic meters, this furnace ranks among the largest globally and stands as a symbol of advanced engineering and operational excellence. It reflects the company’s strategy to scale operations while embedding automation, safety, and environmental responsibility into its infrastructure.
“This launch is a moment of great pride not only for our team but for the nation. It signals a new phase of growth as we double Angul’s capacity to 12 MTPA,” said Mr Jindal. “Rooted in the heritage of Odisha and powered by modern technology, this furnace brings together tradition and innovation as we contribute to building a self-reliant India.”
The expansion strengthens Angul’s position as the company’s central manufacturing base. Jindal Steel plans to build further on this momentum with a deep-water port at Paradeep, a dedicated slurry and coal pipeline system, the Shreebhoomi Power Plant, and additional coke oven units. These additions aim to streamline logistics, boost energy efficiency, and lay the groundwork for future scaling.
Jindal Steel ranks among India’s top integrated steelmakers. Known for operational scale and a resource-backed model, the company operates modern facilities in Angul, Raigarh, and Patratu. With investments totaling over $12 billion, its presence spans both Indian and African markets. Jindal Steel’s product range supports vital sectors including infrastructure, real estate, and industrial manufacturing, delivering strength, durability, and long-term value.
