Bartronics India Limited (BIL), a publicly listed technology and services company, has announced a strategic investment of up to ₹50 crore in Huwel Life Sciences Pvt Ltd, a Hyderabad-based leader in molecular diagnostics. As part of this agreement, BIL will acquire a 15% equity stake in Huwel, with the option to increase its shareholding by an additional 15% in the future.
This investment brings together Bartronics’ strength in scaling, technology integration, and market execution with Huwel’s proven diagnostic innovation capabilities, marking a significant step toward advancing India’s public health goals and expanding global access to affordable diagnostics.
Founded and led by Dr Rachana Tripathi, Huwel Life Sciences is a women-led enterprise operating from a world-class ISO-certified and CE/FDA-compliant facility in Hyderabad. The company has built a portfolio of over 100 validated diagnostic solutions across key areas such as tuberculosis (TB), infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, viral outbreaks, genetic disorders, and cancer.
Huwel gained national recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic for delivering scalable RT-PCR testing solutions and has since introduced diagnostic tools for emerging threats like Nipah and Chandipura viruses. Its Uniamp point-of-care devices offer fast and accessible testing for both urban and remote settings.
One of Huwel’s flagship innovations is the Quantiplus® TB Fast Detection Kit, a low-cost, open-system RT-PCR solution for TB confirmatory testing. Approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and launched by the Union Health Minister, the kit aligns with the government’s National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) and the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘TB Mukt Bharat’. In 2023 alone, NTEP conducted 1.89 crore sputum smear tests and 68.3 lakh NAATs, demonstrating the pressing need for affordable, scalable diagnostics.
Under the terms of this strategic collaboration, Bartronics India will lead all go-to-market operations, including technology enablement, digital outreach, application development, and platform management. BIL will identify new opportunities, manage commercial engagements, and secure government, institutional, and international contracts — ensuring long-term value creation for both organizations.
The execution of this business will be handled through a dedicated subsidiary, enabling recurring and predictable revenue streams for BIL. In addition, both companies will collaborate on R&D initiatives, new product development, and international expansion — particularly in high-potential markets such as Africa and Southeast Asia. This partnership aims to position India as a global hub for diagnostics manufacturing and life sciences innovation.
Vidhya Sagar Reddy, Managing Director of Bartronics India Limited, stated “Our vision is to create a monopoly-strength diagnostic portfolio that originates from India and serves the world. This partnership not only supports critical national health missions like TB elimination but also creates a robust, recurring revenue model for our business.”
Dr Rachana Tripathi, CEO of Huwel Life Sciences, added “From COVID-19 to rare viral threats, Huwel has continuously delivered breakthrough diagnostics that protect public health. With the ICMR-approved Quantiplus TB solution and our expanding pipeline, we are now well-positioned to scale across India and global markets — and Bartronics is the ideal partner to help us achieve this.” This collaboration represents a shared commitment to strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure, accelerating disease elimination efforts, and establishing global leadership in affordable, accessible diagnostics.
