Aptiv PLC, a global technology leader in mobility solutions, has inaugurated a new Software, Advanced Safety & User Experience (AS&UX) Technical Center in Chennai. This marks a key step in Aptiv’s efforts to expand its engineering footprint and strengthen product development for the Indian automotive sector.

Covering more than 34,000 square feet, the new site will accommodate up to 500 engineers by 2026. The facility houses cutting-edge labs and testing environments designed to fast-track development in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and safety-critical automotive systems.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior leaders from both Aptiv and Mahindra & Mahindra, including Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of AS&UX at Aptiv, and R Velusamy, President (Designate) of Mahindra’s Automotive Division and Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd.

“Our expansion in Chennai reflects our commitment to India’s strong engineering capabilities,” said Javed Khan. “This center will enable us to adapt advanced safety technologies and in-cabin systems to local market needs, while maintaining global standards of performance and safety.”

This is Aptiv’s fourth technical center in India, reinforcing its long-term commitment to serving domestic vehicle manufacturers. The new hub will lead development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), interior monitoring technologies, and infotainment platforms tailored for software-defined vehicles. It will also support the company’s global cloud-based architecture and leverage tools and systems provided through Aptiv’s collaboration with Wind River.

Aptiv continues to grow its presence across India, with strategic investments aimed at both innovation and localized production. The company currently employs over 13,000 people in India, with operations spanning eight manufacturing units, four engineering centers, and a tooling facility. These sites collectively support Aptiv’s mission to develop intelligent, software-led systems for the next generation of mobility.

Aptiv is a global technology company delivering solutions that help make mobility safer, cleaner, and more connected. The company is committed to advancing sustainability and intelligent system design across the transportation industry.
