Kongsberg Automotive (KA) has announced that it will acquire the remaining 75% ownership in Chassis Autonomy SBA AB (CA), bringing its total stake in the Swedish firm to 100%. The transaction, executed through KA’s subsidiary Kongsberg Automotive AS, is expected to be finalized within the week.
This move builds on several years of collaboration between the two companies and is aimed at reinforcing KA’s focus on steer-by-wire technologies—electronic steering systems that replace traditional mechanical linkages. With the steer-by-wire market expected to grow significantly, reaching an estimated €3.5 billion by 2035*, KA sees this acquisition as a key step in securing a foothold in a developing area of vehicle technology.
“This decision supports our broader goals and allows us to strengthen our role in the electric and autonomous vehicle segments,” said Trond Fiskum, President & CEO of Kongsberg Automotive. “It reflects our focus on long-term growth, technical development, and creating sustainable value for our stakeholders.”
Chassis Autonomy will continue to operate from its facility in Trollhättan, Sweden. The acquisition ensures continuity for both its workforce and customer relationships, while providing access to KA’s international infrastructure and resources.
“We’ve worked closely with KA for several years, and this transition feels like a natural next step,” said Peter Johansson, Founder and CEO of Chassis Autonomy. “We view this as a strong endorsement of the work we’ve done and the direction we’re heading.”
KA supplies mechanical and electronic systems to global vehicle manufacturers, with products that include motion and driver control systems, fluid handling components, and interfaces for industrial equipment. Chassis Autonomy specializes in road wheel actuators for steer-by-wire systems and holds 31 patents (granted and pending) in the field. Steer-by-wire technology replaces mechanical steering columns with electronic controls, allowing for greater design flexibility, potential weight reduction, and integration with autonomous vehicle systems.
Kongsberg Automotive develops advanced technology solutions for the global automotive industry. The company supports the shift toward sustainable mobility with a portfolio that includes driver control systems, fluid transfer products, and industrial interface components.
