Siemens has introduced the next generation of its Sinamics G drive portfolio, offering a unified and scalable platform designed to meet the evolving requirements of machine builders and plant operators. The new generation addresses the need to improve productivity, energy efficiency, cybersecurity and operational flexibility while reducing engineering, commissioning and maintenance effort.
Designed for continuous-motion applications, the platform brings together a range of power ratings and application requirements through a consistent approach to engineering and operation. Its development is based on three key principles: Security by Design, integrated safety functions and digitalisation to improve transparency and support intelligent maintenance management.
Cybersecurity has been incorporated into the platform from the outset. All drives in the new generation will be made ready for the European Union Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and will offer integrated cybersecurity capabilities up to Security Level Capability 2 (SL-C 2), as defined in IEC 62443-4-2.
The drives also provide integrated safety functions up to Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3), supporting the protection of personnel, machinery and industrial facilities. Digital integration and simplified operation are further supported through seamless connectivity with the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal, an integrated web server and a common engineering and operating concept.
These features are intended to streamline drive selection, engineering, commissioning, diagnostics and servicing. Machine builders can benefit from shorter engineering cycles, lower training requirements and greater standardisation across different machine platforms.
Ethernet-based OPC UA communication enables drive and operational data to be used for asset and energy management, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. This connectivity provides plant operators with greater visibility into equipment performance and supports more informed operational decisions.
With the introduction of the Sinamics G200, G210C, G210 and G210X, Siemens completes the next generation of its Sinamics G portfolio. The new products build on the Sinamics G220, a flexible high-end drive introduced in 2023. The Sinamics G200 is designed for general-purpose industrial applications. The Sinamics G210C targets compact machines requiring high power density and overload capability. The versatile Sinamics G210 supports a broad range of moving, positioning and processing applications, while the Sinamics G210X offers dedicated functions for pumps, fans, compressors and other infrastructure applications.
Together, the four drives and the G220 provide a common technology platform covering diverse industrial requirements. The unified portfolio enables machine builders and operators to adopt standardised drive solutions while retaining the flexibility to address specific application needs and prepare their installations for future developments.
