HCLTech (NSE: HCLTECH; BSE: HCLTECH), a global technology company, and Rapidus Corporation, a Japanese developer and manufacturer of advanced logic semiconductors, have announced a strategic partnership to support the development of next-generation semiconductor technologies. The companies have officially inaugurated two HCLTech development centres in Bengaluru and Hubli, India, dedicated to meeting Rapidus’ evolving semiconductor engineering requirements.

The centres will draw on HCLTech’s engineering capabilities to provide a range of specialised semiconductor services. These include mask design, design infrastructure, process design kit (PDK) development, design technology co-optimisation (DTCO) and layout design. The facilities will support Rapidus as it advances its plans to develop and manufacture advanced logic semiconductors in Japan.

The partnership will also focus on developing a pipeline of Indian engineering talent to address Rapidus’ future workforce requirements in Japan. Through this initiative, the companies aim to strengthen technical capabilities and create opportunities for collaboration between the semiconductor engineering ecosystems of India and Japan.

Dr Atsuyoshi Koike, Representative Director and CEO, Rapidus Corporation, said, “Building a strong engineering ecosystem is essential as Rapidus advances our mission to establish next-generation semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in Japan. Through this collaboration with HCLTech, we expect to access India’s growing pool of semiconductor engineering talent and establish dedicated development capabilities that complement our operations in Japan. We look forward to working together to develop the technical expertise and resources needed to support our long-term objectives.”

C Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director, HCLTech, said, “Advanced semiconductors will define the technologies of the next decade. This partnership reflects the growing strategic collaboration between Japan and India, bringing together Rapidus’ next-generation semiconductor ambitions with HCLTech’s engineering expertise to accelerate chip adoption, compress time-to-market and lay the foundations for the next era of semiconductor innovation.”

The collaboration brings together Rapidus’ advanced semiconductor development ambitions and HCLTech’s engineering resources in India. The two development centres are expected to play a role in supporting Rapidus’ technical requirements while strengthening the wider India-Japan partnership in semiconductor engineering.

HCLTech is a global technology company with more than 230,000 people across over 60 countries.
