Jindal Ferrous Limited (JFL) has commissioned its integrated carbon steel manufacturing facility in Jajpur, Odisha, following an investment of more than ₹5,000 crore. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the facility in the presence of state ministers, public representatives and company officials.

The commissioning marks the start of operations at Jindal Ferrous’ first manufacturing complex. The integrated facility includes a sinter plant, a 2.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) steel melt shop and associated infrastructure designed to support large-scale steel production.

The project incorporates automation and resource optimisation systems aimed at improving operational efficiency and manufacturing reliability. Its integrated design enables the recycling of metallurgical waste through the sinter plant and the use of process gases across operations.

Major equipment suppliers for the facility include Paul Wurth, part of Germany’s SMS Group, for the blast furnace; UHT Sweden for Granshot technology; Primetals Austria for the sinter plant, steel melting shop, basic oxygen furnace and caster; and Danieli Italy for the ladle furnace and hot metal desulphurisation systems.

Jindal Ferrous has also entered into a technical collaboration with Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation to support the operational ramp-up and production of quality steel. The collaboration is expected to bring technical expertise and manufacturing know-how to the new facility.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said Odisha had the potential to become a leading destination for industrial growth and manufacturing. He added that the state government was committed to supporting investors and generating employment opportunities for local communities. He described the commissioning as an addition to Odisha’s industrial base and a reflection of investor confidence in the state’s resources, infrastructure and business environment.

Abhyuday Jindal, Promoter of Jindal Ferrous Limited, said Odisha offered access to raw materials, infrastructure connectivity, policy support and long-term manufacturing opportunities. He said the facility had been developed with a focus on product quality, process efficiency and reliable production at scale, in line with India’s growing infrastructure and industrial requirements.

The blast furnace includes a Level-2 automation platform with an expert model, high top-pressure operation and dry gas-cleaning systems. These systems are intended to improve process stability and efficiency. The facility also incorporates water recycling and environmental management measures, including effluent treatment and a zero-discharge approach. Sewage treatment and reverse osmosis infrastructure is planned as part of the site’s further development.

The project is expected to create employment opportunities for more than 2,000 people and contribute to economic activity in surrounding communities. Its location in Jajpur provides access to raw material sources, pellet availability, port connectivity and long-term iron ore supply arrangements.

Jindal Ferrous Limited (JFL), incorporated in 2019, is a carbon steel manufacturer developing an integrated steel complex in Jajpur, Odisha, with an investment of over ₹5,000 crore. The facility will include a sinter plant, blast furnace and Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) shop. JFL operates across India, focusing on the northern and eastern regions, with an emphasis on integrated manufacturing and responsible resource use.
