Schneider is increasing its driver instructor positions by 26% as the company expands its training capacity to support the continued demand for qualified commercial drivers. The additional instructor roles will help more new hires move from onboarding to behind-the-wheel training while maintaining Schneider’s focus on structured driver development. The positions will be added across the company’s network of training locations in the US and will support both new and experienced drivers.
Andrea Sequin, Vice President of Safety at Schneider, said, “Drivers are essential to keeping the economy moving, and developing the next generation of drivers requires a commitment to helping them succeed. By adding more instructors, we’re expanding our ability to train and mentor drivers, which helps us deliver the reliable service our customers expect. Consistent capacity helps sustain the long-term strength of our network.”
Driver instructors play an important role in Schneider’s training programme by providing hands-on coaching, behind-the-wheel instruction and practical guidance. The company said the expanded instructor team will help new drivers build confidence and prepare for the requirements of working on the road. The new positions also provide an advancement opportunity for experienced Schneider drivers. Nearly 90% of the company’s current driver instructors have moved into the role after working as drivers.
“Experienced drivers often look for ways to share their knowledge with newer drivers, and our driver instructor position allows them to do just that,” Mr Sequin said. “Plus, the role gets them home every day, which is something experienced drivers often desire when considering a job change.”
Schneider operates a network of approximately 14,000 company drivers. The company offers company-paid CDL training programmes for individuals entering the trucking industry, along with career advancement opportunities that can take drivers into instructor and leadership positions.
