DMG MORI has expanded its DMV series of vertical machining centres with the new DMV 160, a three-axis machine designed for high-precision machining of large components. The machine combines a rigid structure, large work area and high-speed machining capabilities for applications across industries including Die & Mold, automotive and aerospace.
The DMV 160 has a monolithic machine frame made from solid cast components and uses roller guideways on all three axes. It provides travels of 1,600 x 700 x 550 mm and has a rigid table with a maximum loading capacity of 2,200 kg. With a feed rate of up to 42 m/min, the machine is designed to support shorter machining cycles and high productivity. Customers can select from a range of spindles, including the inlineMASTER with 15,000 rpm, speedMASTER options with 15,000 rpm High Torque and 20,000 rpm, and the powerMASTER with torque of up to 430 Nm.
The powerMASTER option is designed for heavy-duty machining applications involving materials such as titanium alloys and stainless steel. The spindle configurations feature a BIG-PLUS interface and come with a 36-month warranty. The DMV 160 is equipped with direct drives on all axes, direct path measuring systems and a positioning accuracy of 4 µm. An active cooling system for selected components helps maintain thermal stability during extended machining operations.
The machine can be configured with a tool magazine offering up to 120 SK40 pockets, while the standard configuration includes 30 pockets. Compatibility with pallet handling systems, including the PH Cell 300, allows manufacturers to automate material movement and reduce non-productive time.
DMG MORI has developed the DMV 160 around its Machining Transformation (MX) approach, which focuses on networked, automated and digitally integrated production. The machine features CELOS X on a 24-inch ERGOline X panel, allowing integration into production networks and digital manufacturing systems. Programming can be carried out through graphical interfaces using either Sinumerik ONE or HEIDENHAIN TNC 7 controls.
For automated production, the DMV 160 can be connected to pallet handling systems such as PH 150, PH Cell 300 and PH Cell Twin. The PH Cell Twin can connect a second machining centre to the system. A Robo2Go Milling system can also be used for automated workpiece handling. The machine can be integrated into shop-floor logistics using driverless transport systems such as the PH-AMR 750. These automation options allow manufacturers to link machining, workpiece handling and internal material movement.
The DMV 160 also supports DMG MORI’s Green Transformation (GX) approach through energy- and resource-efficient operation. The combination of machining performance, automation and digital connectivity is intended to support manufacturers working with large components and demanding production requirements.
